Vitamin A: The Gold Standard in Skin Renewal
Meet one of our hero ingredients: Tretinoin.
If there was one ingredient dermatologists and skin experts consistently reach for when it comes to healthy, youthful-looking skin, it's Vitamin A.
But what exactly does it do?

Your skin has its own renewal cycle
Every 28 days, your skin naturally creates fresh new cells deep within the epidermis and gradually moves them to the surface, where older, damaged cells are shed away.
This process is known as cell turnover.
Healthy cell turnover is responsible for:
- Brighter, more radiant skin
- A stronger skin barrier
- Improved hydration
- Smoother texture
- More even skin tone
However, as we age, this process begins to slow significantly. By our 40s and 50s, skin cell turnover can take up to 80 days, leaving skin looking dull, uneven and tired.
This is where Vitamin A changes everything.

Vitamin A works by encouraging your skin to behave more like younger skin, accelerating cell turnover and getting those undamaged skin cells to the surface. This helps your skin function at its best and promotes optimum skin health.
In multiple clinical studies, patients have reported:
- Smoother skin texture
- Reduced appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Improved pigmentation and sun damage
- Fewer breakouts and congestion
- Increased collagen and elastin production
- Reduced inflammation and redness
It's for this reason that Vitamin A is widely considered the number one ingredient for healthy ageing and long-term skin health. PMID: 39348007

Not all Vitamin A is created equal
There are several forms of Vitamin A available in skincare, including:
- Retinol
- Retinal
- Retinyl Palmitate
These ingredients are commonly found in over-the-counter products from stores like Mecca and Sephora, and can be highly beneficial for the skin.
However, before they can become active, your skin must first convert them through a series of steps into the form your skin cells can actually use – Retinoic Acid. Every time they convert, they lose potency.

The difference with Retinoic Acid or Tretinoin
We formulate with Tretinoin in most of our Night Cream formulations.
Tretinoin is prescription-strength Vitamin A and is considered the gold standard in dermatology and medical skincare.
Unlike Retinol and other Vitamin A derivatives, Tretinoin is already in its active form. This means it doesn't require conversion by the skin and can bind directly to skin receptors immediately. Tretinoin is up to 20x stronger than other forms of Vitamin A and so a thorough assessment needs to be made, it’s not suitable for everyone.
In simple terms, it gets straight to work.
This direct pathway allows Tretinoin to deliver faster, more noticeable and more effective results when compared with traditional over-the-counter Vitamin A products.
When it comes to skin renewal, collagen stimulation and healthy ageing, there simply isn't a more researched or clinically proven ingredient available. PMID: 37683070
