Not sure what to choose?

Normal

Skin that does not experience any irregularities in terms of water and oil levels.

Dehydrated

A lack of water, typically starting in the lower layers of the skin. Symptoms of a dehydrated skin usually show up in the form of tightness, itchiness, fine lines and potential sensitivity.

Dry

A lack of oil, typically on the surface of the skin. Dry skin will usually manifest in the form of flaking, redness, potential sensitivity and skin texture.

Oily

Skin that produces excess oil on the face, resulting in shine and potential congestion.

Combination

Where both dryness and oil effects different areas of the face.

Sensitive

This type of skin is more ‘inherent’ – which easily reacts to fragrance and perfumes, often resulting in red, itching skin. This often doesn’t go away easily. Sensitive skin can happen as a result of a weakened lipid barrier, an underlying condition, overuse of products and environmental factors.

Reactive

Characterised by red, hot rashes that surface from external factors. Reactive skin often occurs when exposed to heat, exercising, active skincare – this usually settles very quickly and is not itchy or painful.

Unsure

Your choice should reflect your skin type on a day to day basis. If none of the options seem suitable, please select unsure and continue through the questionnaire.

Not sure what to pick?

Pigmentation

Appears due to an overproduction of melanin, stimulated by a number of different triggers such as UV exposure, hormones, genetics and even medical conditions and certain medications. Visually, it can be recognised as patches of the skin appear darker than the skin surrounding.

Acne and/or breakouts

Red bumps that appear on the skin due to a blockage in the pores, usually as a result of excess oil production, dead skin cells, bacteria or inflammation.

Melasma

Different hormones can stimulate melanin production to cause what is commonly known as the skin condition melasma. The skin changes that occur are the result of increased numbers of the pigment producing cells in the skin (melanocytes). Melasma tends to be larger patches of skin that appear darker than the skin surrounding.

Dullness

Skin that lacks glow, or brightness, usually arising from a number of other concerns, such as pigmentation, skin texture, dehydration, acne and so on.

Scarring

Generally a result of active breakouts leaving behind texture and uneven skin tone. This can result in either texturised scarring or residual reddish-pink scars, known as post-inflammatory erythema (PIE). PIE is a result of blood vessel damage within inflamed skin.

Ageing Skin

Aesthetically, ageing skin usually refers to loss of elasticity and volume to the skin, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and a dry, textured complexion.

Rosacea

A chronic skin condition that causes facial blood vessels to enlarge, giving the cheeks and nose a flushed appearance. Side effects also include increased skin sensitivity, acne-like breakouts and intolerance to active ingredients. Rosacea can be triggered by a variety of everyday lifestyle factors such as what you eat, drink, heat, stress and more.

Enlarged Pores

Holes on the skin that are visible to the eye due to their larger size. Pores secrete oil, sweat and other substances from the skin.

Eczema

A condition that causes the skin to become itchy, dry, rough, flaky, inflamed and irritated. Usually experienced in flares in response to internal and external stressors.

Dermatitis

Where inflammation in the skin has occurred due to contact with allergens, irritants or other triggers, usually as a result of a damaged lipid barrier. You can identify dermatitis typically as a cluster of small pimples, typically around the mouth (perioral), nose (perinasal) or between the brows (periorbital). It can look almost rash-like, can be quite red, inflamed and itchy.

What is active skincare

Active skincare refers to the ingredients utilised in a product that are working to address the skin concern it is meant to target. They are scientifically proven to have an effect on the skin, usually more intensive than other ingredients.

Not sure what to pick?

Puffiness

Excessive accumulation of fluids in the skin tissue surrounding the eye can cause them to look puffy or swollen in appearance.

Fine Lines

Typically a result of dehydrated skin or facial movement throughout the day, fine lines around the eye area will generally come and go throughout the day. If left untreated, they have the tendency to forge into more permanent lines, otherwise known as wrinkles.

Wrinkles

Deeper creasing around the eye that remains visible and is due to a loss of collagen and elastin in the skin.

Dehydration

A lack of water or hydration around the eye area, typically manifesting in the form of fine lines on the skin. For those who wear concealer you will know if your eye area is dehydrated if your concealer tends to crease, crack or looks cakey throughout the day.

Pigmentation

Appears due to an overproduction of melanin, stimulated by a number of different triggers such as UV exposure, hormones, genetics and even medical conditions and certain medications. Visually, it can be recognised as patches of the skin appear darker than the skin surrounding.

Darkness

Where the skin around the eye appears darker, potentially purple, blue or even dark brown in colour. They can be caused by a number of lifestyle factors, while others are prone due to genetics.

Pigmentation

While typically a harmless condition, it is also a frustrating aesthetic concern – we get it! We tackle pigmentation using intense, prescription ingredients that work tirelessly to fade existing pigmentation from the surface of the skin and prevent further pigmentation from forming.

Acne and / or breakouts

One of the most common skin conditions experienced – of course, there are a lucky few who manage to get away unscathed, but we can say with confidence most people have had a breakout at least once in their lifetime! At The Secret, we treat a range of breakout concerns by utilising prescription strength formulas that help to resurface the skin, remove harmful, acne-causing bacteria and regulate oil production.

Melasma

As if the hormonal changes aren’t enough in themselves – you have to face this too? Not to worry, here at The Secret we work with topical, prescription ingredients that fade existing melasma from the surface of the skin and prevent further melasma from forming.

Dullness

Glowing skin is never out of grips. We restore glow to your complexion by resurfacing the skin and removing the things that may be disturbing its clarity. We do so by increasing skin cell turnover, ridding the skin of dead, damaged or “dull” skin cells and subsequentially replacing them with younger, brighter and healthier cells.

Scarring

It’s unfair, we know. You haven’t got any active breakouts, but it seems like you may as well have! Clarity is a Secret Skincare specialty, using a combination of rapid cell turnover to smooth the skin and a range of specific brightening and anti-inflammatory agents scarring is made a thing of the past, so you can wholly enjoy your breakout-free skin.

Ageing Skin

While no one can stop the clock, we do know how to give the clock a run for its money. Our products work to mimic the behaviour of younger skin cells for, you guessed it, younger skin.

Wrinkles

They tell the story of a life lived well. We understand the want to smooth out the skin, however, and The Secret can help you do so. Our products work to speed up skin cell turnover to mimic the behaviour of younger skin to smooth away any creases in the skin.

Rosacea

If you suffer from Rosacea, you'll know the frustration of uncontrollable flushing. We can help you take back control of your skin. At The Secret, we approach rosacea by calming the inflammation and creating healthier skin cells that are more resilient to the grips of rosacea.

Enlarged pores

Pores are essential for our skin health! In fact, the skin that stays smoother as we age tends to have larger pores. However, aesthetically, we understand why you might want to tighten these up. By increasing skin cell turnover and collagen and elastin production, The Secret is able to tighten pores for a smoother base overall.

Eczema

Frustrating, random flare ups of inflammation be gone. By creating healthy skin cells and using powerful anti-inflammatories we can make sure this is the case.

Dermatitis

It starts with just one patch… before you know it, that one patch has turned into a full-on breakout of inflammation. One that can be hard to come back from. Utilising a combination of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories to The Secret is able to treat dermatitis and alleviate the skin of irritation.

Why do we need to ask this?

Birthday

Your skin is constantly evolving throughout its life. It is constantly changing its structure, functions and needs as we age. Your age is a detail that will help our doctors create the perfect formulation for you.

What is hydroquinone?

Hydroquinone is a lightening agent that works by decreasing the number of melanocytes in your skin. These melanocytes make melanin, which is what produces your skin tone. The overproduction of melanin is what leads to pigmentation and uneven skin tone.

You cannot use hydroquinone while pregnant.
